The Process

Ever wondered how raw beef fat transforms into luxurious tallow skincare? My process is rooted in tradition, carefully refining each batch to preserve its natural benefits. See the journey from suet to the final, nourishing product you love.

  • When I pick up beef suet fat it looks nothing like the final product in my cute little jars. It’s definitely not fluffy or pearlescent in color yet!

  • Sometimes, it comes in large chunks with kidneys still encased; other times, the butcher cuts it up a bit for me. The appearance varies with each meat processor I source from.

  • The fat can range from pale white to cream or yellow. It often has a slightly greasy appearance and is almost always encased in connective tissue. No two batches ever look exactly the same! That’s why I always remind my customers that the texture, color, and scent of my products naturally vary.

  • After trimming and removing excess pieces (including any kidney remnants), I add the fat to a big pot or crockpot to render it down. I use both the wet and dry rendering methods, depending on the batch. Both methods work beautifully—some people dislike wet rendering, but I personally love the process and the final product it creates.

  • My favorite step is what I call the “liquid gold stage”—when the tallow is still hot from rendering, glowing with a rich golden hue! Once it cools and hardens, I’m left with a pure, all-natural, and versatile ingredient. This is the foundation of all my products!

  • After the process of adding in liquid oils and other ingredients I am able to create the variety of tallow products that I offer. From whips to balms, everything is small batch only and has been since the start in 2022! If your reading this, know that your getting high quality ancestral skincare from Grass Fed Beauty.
